Due to the late date at which school started for the 1940-41 term, no field day was held last fall, but will be held sometime in the spring.

Rugby
The junior boys' rugby team of 1940 proved to be a big improvement over those of the last few years. The scores and highlights were:
Port Hope at Bowmanville - 0-19
In this game the team had had little experience and made a very poor showing.
Cobourg at Port Hope - 13-8
The boys played a much better game and were in a good position to take the game if time had permitted.
Port Hope at Whitby - 16-6
This game was the hardest contested all year and in the last quarter Port Hope put over two touches to take their first game in three years.
Bowmanville at Port Hope - 3-10
After the trimming received at Bowmanville this win really put fire into the team. This game was played in a driving rainstorm and the campus was very slippery. Downey kicked all ten of the team's points.
Port Hope at Cobourg - 0-5
This game was much disputed by our team as Smith scored a touch on an onside kick which got us a 10-yard penalty instead of the five points.
Whitby at Port Hope - 18-0
In this game the team played very poorly and after defeating Whitby on their own field it was quite a let-down.
Downey's kicking was very good all season, and a good many of the Blue and White's points were scored by him. Keeler was good on the tackling and pulling down forward passes and John Smith was good on plunging. Lorne Smith, the Captain of the squad, played a steady game and kept the team's spirits high in the game.
Whitby won the Lakeshore group and were defeated by Lindsay who went through to take the Ontario Championship.

Junior Rugby Team

Basketball
Many warm-up games were played this term to try and make smooth working teams.
After just one week's practice the team went to Cobourg where both teams lost close games by the score of 31-21. The Seniors went down to a 49-21 defeat.
Peterborough at Port Hope
The teams split these games, the Seniors winning and the Juniors losing 27-12. The Senior game was close all the way, and the first half of the Junior game was also close.
St Andrew's Church at Port Hope
In this exhibition tilt with the St Andrew's Church team, the Seniors won a very close and cleanly fought game.
Port Hope at Peterborough
This trip spelled two defeats for the Blue and White squads. The floor had our players beaten early in the game. Gardiner of the Petes scored 20 of that teams points and he had both guards stumped.
Lindsay at Port Hope
The PHHS took both the games, the Junior 23-18 and Senior 29-28. By defeating Lindsay the juniors won their first league game and also eliminated Lindsay.
The Seniors by their win remained in the running, being tied with Peterborough.
Group Playoff at TCS
Port Hope and Peterborough Seniors played off at TCS for the group championship, and in a very fast game Peterborough won 45-23.
This put both Peterborough teams in the Lakeshore League finals, the Juniors meeting Cobourg and the Seniors meeting Bowmanville.

Field Day
It is hoped that our field day will be held early in May so that we may enter in the district meet.
Winners of events in this district meet go to the Ontario Athletic Commission Camp, so it is well worth the time spent on training.

Gym Night
A "gym night" is held in the gymnasium each week where apparatus work, tumbling, and boxing is performed.
It is hoped that a night will be set aside next term for a display in the gym, and spectators will be able to see a little of what goes on in our PT Periods.
